Crest of the Stars. I’ve seen a few anime in my time, but this one is different in several respects from your average anime indicate. For starters, it’s the slowest piquant anime I have ever seen. Things that would happen in one episode in another series happen in two or three episodes here. And while there IS action (region battles and shootouts) they are few and far between. Nor is the place very complex or mind-blowing in nature.
What makes this series fascinating is characterization and attention to detail. Many of the characters say and do things that leave you wondering fair what they are actually thinking. For instance, the first episodes have everyone saying that Jinto’s father sold out his planet and betrayed everyone. Yet, what we contemplate onscreen and what people later say about it suggests the opposite. Was Jinto’s father really saving his planet from total destruction? And what of the Abh? Are they ruthless, heartless people of destruction, or a misunderstood bustle suited of grand loyalty and kindness? I don’t know. I may have to inspect this series quite a few times to figure everything out. If you want something to sink your teeth into intellectually, this series is it.
Technically, this is also a very titillating series. The music is a attractive orchestral masterpiece. The animation ranges from very pleasant to breath-taking. But the English dub of the voices doesn’t match the characters very well. And even in the profitable Japanese dub, the lip-synching is ocassionally so far off it becomes distracting. And then there is the Japanese text. At the beginning of the series, it seems like it’s everywhere. At times you’ll have Japanese text with English text on top, and it feels a bit overwhelming (on tv they keep a shadowy blank on top of the Japanese text so it wouldn’t distract) .

So all in all, I recommend this series to hard-core sci-fi fans and die-hard anime fans looking for something different and having the patience for a present that’s isn’t bulky of action and violence, but instead relies on worn character development. I peek forward to the next season.
I picked up this anime on a lark. I had never heard of it before, and had expected it to be only average. Boy was I ghastly. I acquire over dozens of anime series, and this instantly became my all-time current. The video is top notch, and both the Japanese and English voices are safe.
When Jinto’s planet is conquered by the Abh Empire, Jinto is made an Abh nobleman. The series chronicles his and a noblewoman’s travels together. This anime is based on a book rather than a manga, and that influence is definite. The characters use quite a bit of time talking about their lives and experiences. Moreover, each episode is like a chapter in a book, rather than a complete narrative. This means that the anecdote progresses attractive slowly. I like this, but some people may not. If you’re modern to anime, you may wish to check out more current shows like Tenchi Muyo! or Ranma 1/2. If you’re tired of all the comedies and mecca shows, give this disc a try. It’s worth the notice of admission.
The only plight I have with this prove is that only 4 DVDs have been released so far. I’ve heard that two more series exist in Japan, and I’m breathlessly awaiting them.
